SURRO Infrastructure Push Complete.

We’re Not Using Pagure

After further evaluation we realized that Pagure would not suit our needs.

We went through a gruelling install process only to find that it required service coupling that we weren’t comfortable with.  It was excellent working with the Pagure team during this process and I saw a deluge of commits as they head towards a new major release that hopefully will solve many of the things we encountered, but all in all it still is a great product and we wish them well.

We will instead be splitting what it would provide us between a refresh of gitlab and a new issue tracker referenced below.

New Official Source Code Repositories

I am pleased to announce that our new gitlab server is launched and looking spiffy.

Thanks to Greybeard Prawn for his diligence in security configuration to get us our A+ rating at Qualys SSL Labs.

The new URL for our source code repos is:

https://source.surroindustries.com

Registration is open, and encouraged to the public.

Please see an admin in irc://irc.freenode.org/#surro-linux if you have trouble with access.  We will be tuning access controls and default configurations for a while.

New Official Issue Tracker

I am also pleased to announce that our official bug tracker and request portal is launched.  The greybeards have been throwing rocks at it for a couple weeks to make sure it holds up.  This has made it possible for us to get alot more done in a shorter amount of time than we expected.

The new URL for our issue tracker is:

https://bugs.surroindustries.com

Registration is open, and encouraged to the public.

Please see an admin in irc://irc.freenode.org/#surro-linux if you have trouble with access.  We will be tuning access controls and default configurations for a while.

Next-Gen: New Salt Master

It is not able to be showcased yet but we’re currently in the progress of setting up a salt master for generation of a preprod environment.  Once this is complete we’ll generate a new prod environment from that.  After this is looking good we’ll cut over the DNS to the new prod.  Once this is in place we’ll be enjoying the benefits of infrastructure as code.

If you’d like to participate in this upcoming project please see Greybeard Prawn in irc://irc.freenode.org/#surro-linux.

Next-Gen: SSO/LDAP/Confederated User Management Systems

We are researching confederated user management for web services as all current services and systems have excellent LDAP integration.  I have nothing further to announce in this area right now.

Next-Gen: ISA

We’re also working on designing user/group and access control to lay groundworks for a support staff team member to join our ranks safely.  I have nothing further to announce in this area right now.

Pending: Blog Rotations

On a final announcement, we’ll be moving this blog to the SURRO umbrella domain along with pastebin services.  Currently my personal blog is at blog.surroindustries.com where I plan on making the new home for this blog.  My personal blog will be moving to the SILO umbrella at blog.silogroup.org.

Next-Gen: Mailing Lists

I am still deciding the role mailing lists will play in SURRO but I do think they’ll end up being important.  I need more time to think about this.

Open: Examplar

Now that infra is moving on its own a little I can focus on Examplar again when I next have time.
